July 22 2016 - Hot Top Ten

TRACK OF THE WEEK
LOWES - AWAKE AT NIGHT
Stunning debut from new Lancaster three-piece unveiled this week. This really is an impressive first offering, built on a minimal piano and vocal opening, it captures the same appeal as London Grammar with a senses-grabbing alt-pop textures and ambient instrumentation, and the soaring vocal delivery of Evie Plumb.

HEARTRACER - DREAM GIRL
Electro-synthpop brothers, Chip and Chris Cosby from Richmond, Virginia, take their love of the 80s with this synth-rich track. "'Dream Girl' is a song about the moment when you meet someone new and the feeling of mystery and unfamiliarity that takes hold and leaves you both feeling vulnerable," is how the duo describe the track, which appears on their 'Eat Your Heart Out' EP, out in September.

JANE IN SPACE - FEEL IT ALIVE
Lead cut from New York electronic rock/industrial trio's (Tom Vickers - vocals; Josh Stillman - bass; Jesse Jensen - electronics, guitar, keys) self-titled debut album, mastered by Tom Baker (Nine Inch Nails, Deftones) and released by Aion Records on August 19. Dark, experimental with surprisingly welcome beat.

PILL - VAGABOND
Brooklyn's Pill follow their 2015 EP with a debut full-length, 'Convenience', out August 19 on Mexican Summer, and from where this sub-four minute Savages-esque track comes. Veronica Torres casts raw punk textured vocals over sax and guitars.

PLASTIC NANCY - NOSTALGIA SCENE
Sam Schneider (guitar) and Chase Noice (drums) of Virginia's late teens outfit Shirt/Pants dig up some ambient psych vibes on this side project's lead track from their recently unveiled three-song debut.

SEX STAINS - DON'T HATE ME 'CUZ I'M BEAUTIFUL
Winning the award for briefest track of the week - all 61 seconds of - are the LA punks, fronted by Bratmobile’s Allison Wolfe. The snarling, energetic lead cut blaster is from their self-titled debut album, out via Don Giovanni Records on September 2.

MAYBERRY - WILDFIRE
Popular alt-pop-rock Texas quartet release their second EP 'Beautiful Mess' today, which judging by this single cut, is likely to garner them even more fans with infectious melodies and plenty of power pop hooks.

EARTH HEART - HOMESICK
Title track and lead single from the Boston garage-rock band's upcoming debut album 'Homesick', available August 5, helmed by Katie Coriander's husky vocals lead over echoing guitars and crashing drums.

PALM HONEY - BONES
Out on 7" vinyl this week, the latest single from the Reading psychsters, following 'You Stole My Blackout' and which was originally conceived as a slow, chilled-out dreampop track that frontman Joseph Mumford demoed one late night alone in his kitchen. Now in uptempo form that combines a hazy psych essence with a heavy, aggressive rhythm.

HOT DREAMS - PLUNGEPOOL
Released July 13, the debut single from London-based indie rock quartet. Guitar-driven with hypnotic bass lines, effortlessly atmospheric riffs, and vocals that ease over punctuated percussion.
