New Sounds #92 September 4 2016

FIELDINGS - HEARTLESS
Released last month, the first new work from the dreampop five-piece following vocalist Lucinda Hearn's move from Australia to New York. Taken from their forthcoming EP 'Fruit', the track lyrically explores the bittersweet end to a relationship, as woozy synths chime behind Hearn’s goddess vocal delivery. Star rating: ★★

BOYS - OFF TO NEW YORK CITY
Lots of harmonic "ooohs" as you might expect from the London dreampop outfit on this second track from their debut EP, out next month. With reverb-filled vocals and guitar riffs abounding, as well as produced with Yuck’s Max Bloom, the track looks set to follow the same success as debut release 'Nice Guys' earlier this summer. Catch live on September 9 at The Old Blue Last, London. Star rating: ★★

NGOD - CAN YOU HEAR ME?
We hear you. New single from the Bradford rockers who so impressed with debut 'Blue'. Frontman Sam Augustine unleashes the soulful, yet gritty, vocals over the catchy blues/rock grooves, punchy drums and a funky edge. Star rating: ★★

TAYLOR PAYNE - THE JUNGLE TALKS
Released September 9 via The A&R Department, the dark pop follow-up single to last year's 'Outsider' debut from the Sunshine Coast songstress. From a broody opening into 80s styled piano and synth melodies and syncopated drums, which meld with sublime vocals. Star rating: ★★

BLISSS - CHALK
Bow, East London-based Tom Greenwood is Blisss-ed out. Well, he may not be all the time, but it's his solo project moniker at least, and with it comes this debut release.
Inspired by old gospel records and big vocal arrangements, the sub-four minute offering revolves around a looped sitar, catchy foot-tapping beat and Greenwood's vocal that's alternately rockin' raw, and sultry smooth. Star rating: ★★
