New Sounds #106 October 19 2016

TIA GOSTELOW - VAGUE UTOPIA
Debut single released on October 14 from the Brisbane alt-indie-folk singer-songwriter who just turned 17 last week. Sweetly captivating voice that belies her young years, accompanied by flowing, sparkling guitar playing. Expect her debut EP early in 2017. Star rating: ★★

DARK MOON - I FLY
Epic psych-blues jam from the London quartet, balancing ethereal vocals, vintage guitars and steady drums on this debut single, taken from their first album ‘Lost In Love & Fear’, out November 25 via Transcendental Grooves. Lola Ulalume delivers the enigmatic vocal on the track she describes as about "spirit, the unknown, what can't be seen by the eyes." Star rating: ★★

BEACHTAPE - REARRANGING MY WAYS
The Brighton four-piece reveal this melodically drifting, lo-fi piece of mellow pop, produced by The Magic Gang guitarist Kristian Smith, as their new single, following previous AA-side single, ‘Skipping Sleep’/‘Again’. Catch on tour with Muskets next week, kicking off on October 25 at Manchester's Fallow Cafe. Star rating: ★★

ESTRONS - I'M NOT YOUR GIRL
Cardiff alt-rock four-piece share the single cut from their EP 'She’s Here Now', out on November 4. An energy-fuelled, bold and fuzzy thumper written by vocalist Tali Källström after hearing two men bragging about female conquests: “Just because I said I want it/Don’t mean you can call me on it/Listen close to what I’m saying/You’re not asking I am telling." Catch live at Cardiff's Swn Festival on October 22. Star rating: ★★

SÄLEN - COPPER KISS
Released last week, the smooth, rhythmic synthpop new single from the East London trio - Ellie Kamio, Paul Taylor Wade and Is Tropical’s Simon Milner - their first for Island Records, which is available to stream and download now. Lyrically dark, but oh so ear-catching. Star rating: ★★
