This debut single from London-based PURS was originally set to feature later this week, but since we've been listening to, and loving it, so much - it's been given an upgrade.
The five-piece, formed just in the first half of this year, was initially the solo project of guitarist Andy Becker, before recruiting longtime friend Kris Proshovski to come in on guitar, and it wasn't long before PURS started to take shape. Joined by Australian Serra Petale (vocals/guitar) and Swede Mattias Bhatt (drums) - both of whom played with the band Kid Wave - and Mandi Goodier (bass), they soon set about honing their shoegaze 'purr' of a sound that melds psychgaze with a punk touch.
Although we were previously introduced to PURS by way of their first recorded efforts, ‘Tame’ which we featured back in April, and 'Surround' - our Track Of The Week in June, they have more recently provided a cover of Autolux's ‘Here Comes Everybody' for a Blak Hand Records covers compilation 'Hide and Psych', which was released last month for Cassette Store Day.
But 'Girl In Love', out on November 26 through Blak Hand Records, is their first official single. Released on cassette tape and with digital download; the physical copies limited to 30 transparent purple tapes which will be sold exclusively at the Independent Record Label Market on November 26 at Old Spitalfields in east London.
Awash with shimmering guitar licks that trade with grungey riffs, 'Girl In Love' is resplendent on Petale's hazy vocals that lend a retro feel to the mix to leave us well and truly purring with pleasure.PURS play The Victoria, Dalston in London on November 29, followed by New River Studios in North London on December 20.
