Track Of The Day :: Loam - Heron

Words: Ellie Ward

Released on March 10, 'Heron' is the debut single from new 'drone pop' band Loam. Hailing from from Sheffield, the trio bring a touch of the 'dark Satanic mills' to this brooding five-minute work.

The band say that they aim to fill the gap "between Nick Cave and Fuck Buttons, mixing big ballads with big synths and drones." Well, they certainly do that, all right.

The song has that deep, compelling quality to it, not least due to Laurie Allport’s immensely listenable and affecting baritone that comes in after the rolling drum and synth layered opening.

There's a first album already in the works and an EP to precede it later this year. We can't wait.

Loam play the O2 in Sheffield, supporting The Comet is Coming on May 20.
