Track Of The Day :: Megative - More Time

Words: Linn Branson

Megative's 'More Time', released at the beginning of June through
Last Gang Records, comes from the new Brooklyn-based collective project of Tim Fletcher (The Stills), producer Gus Van Go (Arkells, Whitehorse, Wintersleep) and NYC production duo, Like Minds, and Brooklyn-via-Jamaica MC, Screechy Dan (Ruff Entry Crew).

Influenced heavily by the 70s UK punk and reggae scene, they unusually, for an American outfit, combine elements of ska, reggae and old school hip-hop - it's easy to see similarities in Fletcher’s style to a young Terry Hall (The Specials) - to bring something that you are not likely to be hearing from anyone else currently.

After ‘More Time’s electronic drum intro, it brings in some wonderful synths and trumpets with Fletcher's dark vocals, before a second verse where the reggae/hip hop influence dominates. It's all pretty cool and laid back, and Sean Cartwright's video direction is an added bonus.
