One time saviours and local heroes of the Edinburgh music scene, the 10:04s, are back from relative obscurity with a video (directed by Danny Bonnar) for single cut ‘Harlequin’, alongside a long awaited debut album, ‘A Common Wealth’, released yesterday (October 4).
It’s fair to say things had gone fairly quiet at 10:04s HQ, at least from a musical point of view since Steven Bolton, Danny Scrimshaw, Johnny Tracey and Paul Haddow’s 2013 singles ‘Lights Out’ and ‘Throes’. But now the band are back with a reimagined sound to adopt a more haunting and atmospheric approach along the lines of The National, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds and Interpol, as showcased in lead single ‘Harlequin.’
It remains to be seen whether the band will follow the record up with any live dates, but for the meantime, throw a log on the fire, get the slippers out, grab a whisky and enjoy the many warming layers this album has to offer over the upcoming winter months.
