Best new tracks Down Under #11

With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.

SPAWTS - HERESY

Auckland, NZ garage rockers Jamie Hannah (drums) and Kieran Ormandy's (vocals, guitar) pack plenty of hooky, fuzzy punk-pop into their second single from upcoming debut album 'AV1', out in July.

REYA - WET PAINT

Released March 15, the Melbourne neo-soul artist returns with her second single. Produced by Haxx of Kult Kyss, a pulsing kick drum is combined with crisp percussion and REYA's own divine vocals over the top. “The song is about the bittersweet feeling of wanting someone or something you can’t completely have," she says. "The blur of emotions from thrilling to frustrating is intoxicating, and no matter how tired of the chase you get, you always want more.”

VAST HILL - HEARTBREAKER

A synth-disco first taste of their debut LP, 'More Than You Imagined', from the Sydney duo, who follow their debut EP 'The Win' with this shimmery 80s styled synth number, filled with a funky disco-groove bassline and helmed by vocalist Elle Kress’ soaring notes.

LOUSKYLAR - DAMAGED GOODS

Melbourne-based two-piece Jessica Frizziero and Nathan Batham are back after their debut single 'Sin' with a second bouncy, infectious electronic pop jam. “'Damaged Goods' explores two very conflicting ideas," says Frizziero. "That raw emotion of battling with insecurities and self-esteem, whilst also being a bit sassy like ‘Well this is me; I’m flawed, I’ve got the things I need to work on and you just gotta deal with that and accept me for me and all my issues’. In many ways it feels like an oxymoron."
