Camden, north London-based LOCALS have just released their short, sharp blast of skuzzy, fuzzy, lo-fi indie-punk, 'TALKBOY’, last Friday (April 26) via Clue Records.
Who are you?
Peech Panko. I play guitar and vocals. Olly Croft plays bass.
Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today.
I began LOCALS as a solo project with the intention of later forming a band. I spent the whole of this spring writing a live show's worth of songs. Me and best friend/bassist Olly are living in Camden.
Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.
I’m listening to a lot of Aussie punk and lo-fi Cali garage stuff at the minute - and plotting a slightly less polished batch of recordings than the previous releases.
Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.
I write pretty much all the songs in my flat in London. The writing process is pretty simple really. I get up in the afternoon, listen to a bunch of bands that I like and get myself pumped then pick my guitar up and spew something out, then I have some Weetabix and a brew. 'Talkboy' was by recorded by Sam Harper at Miloco Studios in South London.
Tell us a little about your new single.
'Talkboy' is about social anxiety and lacking confidence. I formed LOCALS with the intention of creating music that didn't require too much brain power to listen to. Just happy, fun, cool, slack, easy, melodic singalong tracks to throw your shoes in the lake to.
Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?
Me and Olly are currently auditioning drummers; once a full band is in place and rehearsals begin we’ll record and release an EP and start booking shows!
How's the year looking, plans-wise?
We’re releasing our EP ‘SONGS FOR NO ONE’ this summer. Until then you can listen to our three singles on all streaming sites!
