10 Little Indie Hot Picks

Little Indie has had a scout around, and here are some of our best finds of the moment.

DECLAN WELSH & THE DECADENT WEST - NO FUN

A take-no-prisoners anti-anthem for the disassociated youth of modern Britain, taken from the Glasgow band’s debut album, ‘Cheaply Bought, Expensively Sold’, to be released October 18 via Modern Sky. "'No Fun’ is about the inflated self importance of the kind of people who get full of it at a party and corner you to tell you about how they went on holiday and seen 'the real Thailand', states Welsh. "It's about folk with no self awareness. It's about people who think they are the kings of all banter because they put on a funny hat at 3am. It's about people who say the word sesh with no hint of irony. It's about people who say the word sesh ironically. It's about people who say the word sesh."

OSKAR BRAVES - DANCE ON THE FIRE

Released on June 17, the latest single from Fife-based quintet. With an anthemic chorus, captivating guitar hooks and soaring vocals, the track quite literally tells you to "Dance On The Fire". Do what you want to do, Be happy, celebrate yourself and anyone who’s averse to that can, in our polite way of putting it 'Take a walk in the opposite direction'." The band play a single launch show on June 29 at PJ Molloys in Dunfermline.

TOMAKA - WHAT YOU MEANT TO BE

London-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Thomas Carrafang, aka Tomaka, drops this second single - out July 5 - along with video filmed at the Tate Modern in London. Set to appear on his debut album, the song blends vocals, synths and Ney flute in a delicious three-minute sound and visual package.

PHILIP WHITEHEAD - CAIRO

Easy acoustic with a warming voice that really should propel the London singer-songwriter into the same league as Michael Kiwanuka, et al. This fpir-minute track - which follows the earlier 'Winter' and comes from his debut EP out in September - is a laid-back sound, filled with simplicity and lyrical meaning.

REYNA - THE WAY I LOVED YOU

Milwaukee-based Mexican-American indie pop sister duo REYNA - vocalist and bassist Gab Banuelos, and Vic Banuelos, guitar, backing vocals -
follow ‘Heartbeat’ from start of the year with this second release which continues their infectious, glimmering pop style.

MAC BENSON - BEDSHEETS

Bedroom singer-songwriter whom we featured back in January with 'Home With Me'.  The 18-year-old Newcastle artist returns with this new haunting, lo-fi, 94-second offering.

PEAK PARK - DREAMY

The title really sums up this dreamgaze with a touch of psych, debut single from the Australian trio from Melbourne."If Tame Impala wrote the Stranger Things theme with the heart of an anxious and overwhelmed mind," is how they describe it. Lo-fi vocals over nicely arranged instrumentation. Definitely one to like.

JOE BYGRAVES - BRING ME DOWN

Lead single, released June 21, from the 23-year-old pop singer-songwriter from Bedfordshire's new, second EP, 'Chapter Two'. Mature lyricism, strong vocals and a foot-tapping beat that keeps you hooked, this sounds more like a band than a solo artist. Catch Joe live at The Horn in St Albans on July 2.

DANTEVILLES - FOOL FOR YOU

Back on form with this strong latest indie-rock thumper - produced by Courteeners bassist Joseph Cross - the Manchester outfit lend something of a dancefloor groove to this vibrant, polished festival-ready second single of the year from the quartet.

FORREST RUN - SUMMER

From Queenskand, Australia, comes the third and final cut from the upcoming debut EP by the indie electronic trio, which consists of hip-hop producer Judah Winnett, electronic folk instrumentalist Jayke Barnes and indie pop vocalist Ayla. An intruguing fusion of styles, stemming from the individuals' musical backgrounds
