On the road with The Murder Capital Pt I

In case you haven't heard of them, ie not been keeping up with Little Indie's copious coverage, there's currently a little band out of Dublin (no, not the F one) who, well, are starting to do a bit good.

We hinted in our live review of their show last week in Oxford that Little Indie would be stalking them keeping an eye on the progress of The Murder Capital over the course of the next six months that leads up to the release of their debut album in August, and what follows beyond that.

Following their brief stopover on English shores last week, the band headed over to Europe on the weekend to perform firstly at Rock Werchter festival in Belgium (June 29), where vocalist James McGovern was just itching to get in amongst that crowd - see header picture. You can catch a video stream of part of their Rock Werchter set here.

They followed this by an appearance at Metropolis Festival in Rotterdam on Sunday (June 30). We rather chuckled at a tweet we saw on Twitter by one festival goer who questioned whether the band were being secretly sponsored by a cigarette company. Why they should have thought that, we have no idea...

On Monday (July 1), they continued with promo radio sessions in the Netherlands. Firstly, a live studio session for 2 Meter Sessies at the Electric Monkey studio in Amsterdam. This has yet to appear online, but we'll let you know when it does. Then a live two-track performance of 'Green & Blue' and 'Feeling Fades' (both superb, we have to say), plus a brief chat with James and drummer Diarmuid Brennan, which (starting at 1:12:40 in and running to approx 1:36:44), begins with a live performance of 'Green & Blue', followed by a few words with James and Diarmuid and callers comments. Then a Björk track, before the host asks them about liking electronic music, the writing of G&B, the rise of Irish punkwave, and working with Flood. Even Sesame Street gets a namecheck! The session ends with a live performance of 'Feeling Fades'.

You can listen to that audio interview here, with the visuals to the interview (slightly edited) and the songs, below.

The Murder Capital return to England on July 13 for three dates, plus playing London's Citadel Festival on July 14, before going back to the Netherlands on July 18 for Valkhof Festival, then turning around back to Suffolk the day after to play Latitude Festival. And that's only the beginning! Don't know about them, but we're exhausted already! Nevertheless, we shall be stalking, following, watching.
