Alt-grunge-rockers LAULIA have dropped a music video for their latest single '13/7', part of the Surrey-based quartet's double-A sided release with 'Outcast Kids', released last month through Rose Coloured Records.
With a strong production - by Tom Hill at Bookhouse Studios in East London - and guitars rising to crescendo peaks through intermittent shoegaze-esque passages, '13/7' is carried perfectly by guitarist Lauren Holmes' plaintive, desperate vocal delivery.
"We often feel it’s our job to take care of the people we love, we may even feel we owe it to them for everything they have done for us. But at times, we have to accept that their self-destructive, co-dependant behaviours can begin to take a toll on our lives," says Holmes.
"This is often quite difficult to see; it’s so easy to be lead down the road with someone, and it’s so difficult to ‘snap out of it’ so to speak. Sometimes it comes down to the choice of loving yourself or loving someone else, and ultimately, we must accept that we can’t help those who don’t want to be helped."
"In the video the character is trying their best to help a loved one get back on their feet whilst they aren’t taking care of themselves. Over time, the toll of their downhill spiral becomes something that isn’t easy to handle, and really begins to effect the character. Though she tries her best, and feels it’s her responsibility to fix things, eventually the burden becomes too much to handle, and she has to accept that no matter how much effort she puts in, it isn’t going to change anything. By the end, she makes the decision to put herself first and relieve herself from an impossible task of helping someone who doesn’t want to be helped."
You can catch LAULIA live on November 13 at Reading's Purple Turtle, and on November 27 at The Brunswick in Brighton.
