Track Of The Day :: The Dryas - Make You Mine
Words: Linn Branson
Described as a love song with a twist, Brighton trio The Dryas follow their recent debut single ‘Boy’, with downbeat new gem ‘Make You Mine’, which dropped last week.
Co-produced by vocalist/guitarist Hudd Hunter-Smith and Kristofer Harris (Indoor Pets, Ghostpoet, King No-One) - "a lot of the production was done in Hudd's bedroom!" - and recorded at Squarehead Studios in Sittingbourne, the track lives up to its predecessor in quality and appeal, if a little more toned down in tempo.
One of the first things they wrote together as a newly formed three-piece - having previously been an indie dance foursome, Native People - 'Make You Mine' is carried by the simply blissful vocals, which are complemented by the lightest sprinkling of synths, shimmering guitars and unobtrusive drums.
"Lyrically, the song is inspired by falling in love," bass player Luke Cowie tells Little Indie. "Hudd writes all of our lyrics and they nearly always come from a place of personal experience or perspective. In some of our other songs the lyrics have more room for interpretation, but with 'Make You Mine' it is just a straight up love song, that talks about the feelings and emotions you experience when falling in love."
Hudd explains how the song itself "is very literal and straight to the point. I remember this song coming together quite naturally as my emotions were there and when it comes to songwriting I usually treat the lyrics as a personal diary.
"This song is about the first stages of meeting someone and knowing that you have strong feelings towards them. I was way too shy to show it at the time so I decided to write this song instead."
Indulge yourself in 'Make You Mine' below - we guarantee you'll want to make it yours too.
