It would have been a fairly standard Saturday evening, had it not been for just before 9pm (GMT) the following appeared on the Facebook page of My Bloody Valentine:
" We are preparing to go live with the new album/website this evening. We will make an announcement as soon as its up."
Having announced just before Christmas that they had finished mastering the new album, speculation has been rife ever since. Added weight was given to its imminent appearance when frontman Kevin Shields told the audience at their Brixton pre-tour warm-up show on January 27 that it was coming "in two or three days".
The surprise announcement of the album arrived in a similar fashion to that of David Bowie's new single 'Where Are We Now?' last month, with no prior formal record company word.
The album, which will be their first since 1991's 'Loveless', comes in advance of their live UK shows in March as follows:
