Ones To Watch :: The New Fabian Society
The original Fabian Society was a British socialist movement. Its 'New' variant is a Scottish duo who describe themselves as an 'anarchic Glaswegian bi polar 2 piece formed through excess, loathing and misery' doesn't probably augur well for appeal, but persevere.
Michael and Conor Fabian are the 'Fabians' of The New Fabian Society who cite their influences as Brian Jonestown Massacre, My Bloody Valentine, The Stooges, and Mogwai. So you get an idea of where they're coming from...or not.
They played first live show a year ago, going on to being the support for the Glasgow leg of The Chapman Family's Cruel Britannia tour. The songs are deep and dark, aided by power-driven guitars and drums. Some, such as 'Life In Berlin' are distinctly post-industrial in sound, while others like 'Streets Are Riots' lean more to the psych rock side.
After two EP releases, to follow will be a 7" double A Side in April on Electric Company - their own label. The band have also joined forces with French label Old Vibrations Records, which saw the re-release of their 'Exhibition Of Hate' EP in January.
The New Fabian Society are: Michael Fabian - Vocals, Guitar; Conor Fabian - Drums
