Today's Hot Track :: Heavy Waves - No Good
You know how sometimes you can hear a song for the first time, and before even the vocals may have kicked in, you can already sense that it is something a bit good? Well this is one.
Birmingham's lo-fi Heavy Waves whose debut release ‘Edward’ brought them to a wider attention than the the cofines of the West Midlands, have now uploaded what is possibly a little gem and what just could be the biggest jewel in their crown so far. Not that they have that many in their jewelley box, of ourse, so far, being as they are still down in the second league in the the 'BTown wave', behind the likes of PEACE and Swim Deep. Though probably not for too much longer if they have more in their musical armoury like this.
But 'No Good' is not just good - it's well worth lending your ears to at least a few times, if only to appreciate the guitars alone. Right from the start off with those achingly wailsome guitar strains, it becomes a paean of doom grunge invocation. Play it loud and let it seep through you and over you. Then let Luke Morgan's vocals hit you for six in their plaintive, despondent delivery.
Outstanding.
