Single Review :: Mourning Birds - Oh Yeh!
Mourning Birds
Oh Yeh!
November 25 2013 (The Preservation Society)
8/10
Words: Alison Mack
If you thought guitar bands were dead, that rock'n'roll had long ago rocked off, here come Medway three-piece Mourning Birds to defy preconceptions, pummel your eardrums, and knock it out in all the right places with this, their debut single. It may be brief - just one minute and 46 seconds - but what is there packs a punch like a prizefighter on meth. Sam Mitchell powers drum thrashes that anchor the ballsy, slam-dunk vocals of Jimmy Gilder that crack like nails on glass, along with the demented devil drive of Bill Williams' bass. It's raw. It rocks. That's all you need to know. Oh yeh? Oh Yeh!
