Introducing :: Shadow Culture

New sextet Shadow Culture make a fine entrance with their debut track 'Demons', which was recorded live in the north London warehouse off Seven Sisters Road which acts as their base (as well as home to three of the band).

So far, having formed only in May of this year, there's not a lot of backstory, with the last few months being taken up with rehearsing and recording demo tracks. But having known each other since school, Amy and Ben (who had previously played together in other bands) joined forces with Jess and Facy (who they met while studying music at university), and were completed by Naif, an old college friend of Ben's and bassist in one of his previous bands, to join. As rehearsals then began, they were still without a drummer, until Naif suggested Matt, a friend he had played with in another band.

Shadow Culture uploaded their first track, 'Demons', last week, and so far they have been impressing those who have heard it. Led by Amy Wilson's captivating vocal, before joined by Ben Nash to work into done guitar and harmonising and then steadily broadening out and building over just under four minutes.

"It was a live take recorded in the warehouse just two weeks ago," Amy tells us. "This was shortly followed by an intimate, stripped-back live show for Sofar Sounds at said warehouse, which Ben curated and hosted."

Currently the band are continuing to write and demo more material in readiness for further live dates. From just one track it is hard to get much of a feel as to what Shadow Culture may or may not evolve into, but certainly worth keeping tabs on future work judging by their promising start.

Shadow Culture are: Amy Wilson (vocals, guitar); Benjamin Nash (vocals, guitar); Matt Facy (guitar); Jess Sawers-Warren (keys, synth, vocals); Naif Knowles (bass); Matt Noades (drums).
