Listen :: Laurel Canyons
We know little about Laurel Canyons, other than they are a four-piece who hail from Sheffield.
The latter was a surprise perhaps given the sound of new single 'Owe Nothing'. The one-two beat, the quasi-American sound and the somewhat curious vocal inflections by singer Jake Cope will either hold you gripped to the end of its four-minutes-plus. Or not. It has grown on us, that's for sure.
Laurel Canyons (Cope, Paul Burdett, Arv Teeroovengadum and France Lahmar) have picked up again after parting ways with their record label, and now produced 'The ‘Now We’re Rebuilding’, their debut EP - recorded in one weekend at Sheffield’s Yellow Arch Studios with Colin Elliot (Richard Hawley, Jarvis Cocker, Paul Weller).
“The ugly and the overfed, have taken all my songs,” Cope intones on 'Owe Nothing', their new single, before rising to a haunting falsetto of "You’re a fraud/and I owe you… nothing."
'Owe Nothing' is out on September 22.
