Track Of The Day :: Parla - Fledgling

Richard Walters' work is not the kind that thumps through your head like a power ton truck, but more that which slowly seeps through your skin until you become submerged and at one with it - usually bringing a lump to the throat at the same time; partly due to the yearning vocals of Walters, the evocative lyric content, and not forgetting the texture and composition of the arrangement.

One half of the Parla duo, London-based singer / songwriter Walters is the one and same behind Liu Bei - a particular favourite of ours from earlier this summer when he put out 'Infatuation'; see more here. For this venture he is joined by composer Guy Sigsworth, largely known for his production work on albums by Robyn, Madonna, Britney Spears and Björk.

'Fledgling' follows their equally blissful American Music Club cover of 'I've Been A Mess' which was released last month. Much like the aforementioned 'Infatuation', 'Fledgling' too sounds readymade for a movie soundtrack, in that understated way of sounding big, whilst retaining a carefully crafted simplicity - and dig that opening, and the brass in the last minute.

'Fledgling' is taken from Parla's upcoming album. It also features on the Killing Moon Records compilation 'New Moons II', which is out tomorrow, September 15.
