Listen :: Elstow - Evil Dreams

First featured last September in our New From Australia #7 round-up, Elstow, the Sydney five-piece, are about to release their latest single on February 20.

'Evil Dreams' continues in the band's vein of carefully developed sound. Despite the sinister sounding name, and promises of a “very weird” video to accompany it, the song is described by founding member Jared Shaw as “a little more upbeat than the EP, which is probably a result of my growing infatuation with The Flaming Lips’ late-nineties record ‘The Soft Bulletin.’ ”

Co-produced by Elstow and Benjamin Wickstein (Aether Beach), and mastered by Don Bartley, ‘Evil Dreams’ combines Elstow's dreamlike psychedelic overtones with a breezy sunshine-laden chorus. Lyrically, the song swings between verses of doubtful self-reflection, and a chorus of daydream surrender, all amidst an abundance of tremolo guitars, delay, and crisp tambourines.
