Track Of The Day :: Broken Water - High-Lo
'High-Lo' is the debut single from Olympia, Washington's Broken Water’s upcoming album, 'Wrought'. The album was recorded and mixed by producer Steve Fisk - who lists Nirvana and Soundgarden amongst his credits.
Formed in Olympia in 2008 between Jon Hanna and Kanako Pooknyw, (formerly of SISTERS) on guitar and drums respectively, with Abigail Ingram on bass, the outfit have been releasing material since their debut album 'Whet', which was recorded at the end of 2009 and released in March 2010 (with a further full-length 'Tempest' in 2012), and EP 'Peripheral Star' in 2011.
'High-Lo' is a sludgey shoegaze-esque number that is filled out with fuzzy guitars and vocal contributions from all three of the band; not to mention some superbly haunting melodies, and instruments that play against each other with precise execution.
Broken Water open for Speedy Ortiz on May 25 at Mississippi Studios in Portland, Oregon.
'Wrought' is out on March 24 via Night-People Records.
