Listen :: Jackson Scott - Ripe For Love
Words: Ed Francis
In advance of the release of his upcoming second album 'Sunshine Redux' (out April 28 on Bloodmoss Records), psych-pop artist Jackson Scott has shared a third and final preview single titled 'Ripe For Love'.
The track represents the North Carolina songwriter's first release since his 2013 debut EP 'Melbourne', which was largely lauded for it's simmering Syd Barrett-influenced soundscapes centred around walls of fuzzy overdriven guitar noise. Based on this first listen, 'Sunshine Redux' will look to marry these defining elements of Scott's prior output to more focused approach to song-craft.
This shimmering shapeshifter of a track sets out at a vaguely unsettling waltz pace, before abruptly straightening out into galloping lo-fi which then unfurls again into a resonating climax. Clocking in languorously at just over six minutes, it's a dark-edged dream-pop workout which both incorporates and blossoms out from the earlier style that the 22-year-old previously exhibited on tracks such as 'Awful Sound'.
