Sydney's East Of Here Return With Emotive Second Single 'Heartbeat'

We featured the Sydney's East Of Here last December with their debut  ‘Where You Came From’.

Now the duo - 21-year-old Joel Spiteri on guitar and keyboards, and vocalist / guitarist Mike Holm, 23 - who formed in the latter half of last year, have another track on offer.

'Heartbeat' is the second single that, like its predecessor, mixes layered guitars, smooth vocal lines with an electronic edge, with lyrical inspiration this time deriving from the tragic death of a teenager in Sydney last year. "The song reflects the words of a grieving father, contrasted by those of his remorseful and lost child who has passed away, but is trying to communicate," the band tell us. "[It] deals with the issue of Australia’s drug culture and how a life can change in the blink of an eye."

So, not a lightweight track by any means, but its melancholic strains are poignant, and are perfectly balanced against soaring guitar and keyboards.
