Track Of The Day :: LUVV - Teenage Love

Words: Linn Branson

This Cardiff crew have been turning out some rather fine tracks over the last 12 months.

Following up 'Nothing' which we heard in March, the five-piece (Matt Short, vocals; Ben Mainwaring, bass; Sami Hunt, guitar; Iwan Heneghan, guitar; Rich Clarke, drums) have now dropped a new track, 'Teenage Love'.

Recorded in their Cardiff rehearsal space with friends Iain Mahanty (Kids in Glass Houses) and Rob Thomas, the first thing that grabs you in the opening 11 seconds are the sampled sounds of what appears to be a flushing loo, and....er, a lady in throes of passion. [We don't dare ask if the band were perving somewhere to record them.] The track then builds into their defined melodic punk, with furious reverb-entrenched guitars and Matt Short's edgy raw vocal forcing out the repeated title chorus line that is just geared for a mosh pit. It's not long, just two-and-a-half minutes, but the young lady - like us - still seems to be enjoying it through to the end.

From what the band’s bassist Ben Mainwaring tells us, 'Teenage Love' is just "a stand-alone track at the moment. However, it will likely feature on our next self-released cassette in the very near future." Keep your ears peeled.
