Track Of The Day :: The Belligerents - Looking At You
Words: Linn Branson
Our on-going Oz love-fest continues with Brisbane indie pop-psychsters The Belligerents and new single 'Looking At You'. It not only contains all the intrinsic qualities for a TOTD - requires repeated listenings, a fast-licked, foot-tapping, psych explosion beat and rollalong melody that engages the ears - frontman 'Lowis' also possesses one of the most high pitched falsettos to be heard this side of the Great Barrier Reef.
'Looking At You', released last week and which was self-produced by the band, is the first cut from their new EP which is due out on October 23. If the band look or sound familiar, it may be that they run around a host of other known bands: Orphans Orphans, Moses Gunn Collective, The Furrs, Morning Harvey, Family Jordan, TheJungle Giants - possibly why the names are slightly elusive: Lowis - vocals (actually Lewis Stephenson of Moses Gunn Collective, who we featured here back in May, and Morning Harvey, see here), Konstantin Kersting - bass, White Stag - drums, Jimmy - lead guitar, Andy - synth.
The Belligerents are on tour in Australia, November through December.
