A Palette Of New Sounds #5 26/9/15

ORANGE RED - RIVER
First excerpt from the forthcoming EP 'Ocean', out on cassette and digitally on October 19 via French label Scandinavian Crush, from Swedish solo artist from Gothenburg, Jonas Love Williamsson - aka Orange Red. Great lo-fi vocals against electronic beats. Star rating: ***.5/5

GREG CLIFFORD - WHY CAN'T YOU SEE?
Bouncy lead track from alt rock/pop, Dublin-based Clifford's four-track EP, which was released a couple of weeks ago. The solo artist will be playing with a six-piece-backing band at The Finsbury, London on October 17. Star rating: ***/5

MAVIS - BEATLES ON THE FIRE
Lead single from the north-London grunge rock quintet's (none of them a Mavis, or a Beatle, but four of whom make up the brothers Ransom - Michael, Phillip, Chris, Ollie, with Robert Rosser) debut album 'Live Like Us', released on September 30. They play a launch show in London at Proud, Camden the same night. Star rating: ****/5

THE ACADEMIC - NORTHERN BOY
Back to Ireland for this Westmeath quartet, who return with the follow-up - and second single from their debut EP which drops next month) - to debut single 'Different'. Still only in their teens, they've already opened for Noel Gallagher, Kodaline and The Strokes at Hyde Park. Melodic ballad that builds nicely. Star rating: ****/5

REMMI - AWAKE, ASLEEP
Sultry electro pop hooks in this new cut from the new EP - out November 4 - from the Nashville artist who previously featured on Black Coast‘s single 'Gold Chain'. Also just been working with Nashville producer Super Duper on a collaboration. Star Rating: ****/5
