New Sounds #12 30/10/15

WALKING ON CARS - SPEEDING CARS
Irish five-piece indie rockers from the town of Dingle, share another big-sounding track from their debut album - 'Everything This Way', released on January 29 2016 - following singles 'Catch Me If You Can' and 'Two Stones', both of which were Top 30 hits in Ireland. Star rating: ***.5/5

GILLBANKS - TIFFANY
The eponymous Sam Gillbanks releases his EP 'Lend Me Your Skin' on November 27 via Tusk Records, which includes both 'Anxious?' and 'Loosen Up' that we featured in our previous two articles earlier this year (see here) on the London-by-way-of-Falmouth singer. 'Tiffany' lends an hypnotic, down-tempo introspective and more tranquil air. Catch live - with full band - on November 3 at The Finsbury, London, and on November 5 at Black Heart, Camden. Star rating: ***/5

MR. WILL - MOTEL POOLS
Laid-back five-minute title track from the Rochester, New York pop-rock multi-instrumentalist's - Will Smillie - debut EP out last week. Ease back, turn out the lights and drift. Star rating: ****/5

ZONE OUT - INSIDE
First single from the Melbourne electro pop duo's debut album out early next year. Originally Ashley Bundang’s solo project in 2012, going through various band changes, this is the first from them now as a twosome (with Dove Bailey) - a gentle, flowing dreampop track of electronic clicks, beats and butter-smooth vocals. Star rating: ****/5

FRANKIE FURLOW - PLAYING DEAD
Not a 'he' but a 'they' despite the singular name. Hailing from Brighton where they formed in September 2014 (rapidly leading on to playing The Great Escape and Glastonbury festivals this year), this track comes from their second EP 'Life & Theft' from the soul-rock four-piece, released last week. Something quite distinct in Satch Satchell's vocal that some may find either grating or intriguing; either way, it's different, raw, and it really does stick in the head. Star rating: ****.5/5
