Track Of The Day :: Hucks - Us Again

Words: Alison Mack

Little Indie introduced what was then the newly-formed Hucks here in May of last year.

Now the young (all are aged 18 -19) London four-piece return with a new track for 2016. And whilst they remind us that we described their previous single 'Three Four Five' as having 'light summery appeal', there's no chance of our applying the same to 'Us Again'.

"We took big inspiration from the likes of Radiohead and The Flaming Lips while recording this - in a bedroom," drummer Mark Hayden told Little Indie last week.

The four-minute-plus 'Us Again' is a lot darker, snd shows the band experimenting more in their sound. With use of delayed guitars, psych synth melodies, and Tom Johnson's vocal, wrapped in effects, the song is both glacial and haunting; continuing so, until an interesting change of key in the last 40 seconds.

Hucks are unsigned and have no management. So any interested parties might want to get along to one of their upcoming gigs and see what this young band can do live.

Hucks are: Tom Johnson - vocals, guitar; Conor Hedges - guitar, keys; Chris Knight - bass; Mark Hayden - drums.
