New Sounds #116 November 19 2016

FAT HEAVEN - IN MY HEAD
Plenty of guitar shredding on this three-minute track from the debut album 'Tough Luck' released on November 25 via Mirror Universe Tapes. The Brooklyn garage punk trio say it relates to the stress that keeps them up at night, where unwelcome anxieties creep into the mind right when it’s ready to sleep. Star rating: ★★

PORT OF SPAIN - MACHINE
Sydney duo Amy Rose and Julian Ainslie have just unveiled their second glistening electronic pop track with drum sample snd a dreamy top coating of vocals from Amy, the follow up to debut offering 'Blind'. Star rating: ★★

THE GIRL FOLDER - I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT LOVE AGAIN
Harmony driven, catchy pop with 80s Korg Microkorg synths, and layers of vocal harmonies, from Londoner Matthew West, now relocated to Australia's New South Wales. Released earlier this month, the track was written, recorded produced and mixed by West and his four band members. Star rating ★★

CLOVES - BETTER NOW
In a reverse to the above, Amy Winehouse channelling Melbourne native Kaity Dunstan is now London-based and fast becoming a hot name with her sultry blues-fused vocals. This stripped back, raw and emotional ballad - released yesterday - is the follow-up to last year's debut 'Frail Love' and 'XIII' EP. On tour in US from end of November with Michael Kiwanuka, she plays her first headline show at Omeara, London on February 9 2017. Star rating: ★★

GHOSTLY KISSES - EMPTY NOTE
New downtempo single from Quebec, Canada multi-instrumentalist Margaux SauvĂ©, whose affecting vocals recall Dido in this minimalist, lushly textured dreamlike production. Star rating: ★★
