TRACK OF THE WEEK
DYVE - HALF AWAKE
Released on January 20 2017 via Veta Records, Adam Cleaver's debut under the new alias places his heart-stirring vocal over minimalist electro melodies. Our Track Of The Day earlier this week may he a musical departure for the Londoner, but a very welcome one.
ALEXA CASINO - DREAM GIRL
21-year-old New Zealand chillwave songstress Alexa Weatherall introduced herself last year with a selection of bedroom dream-chill songs on Bandcamp. This latest offering shows the Wellington producer has been fine tuning her electronic, other wordly ambience.
ALICE GIRL - BRIDGES
After a brief snatch was put online in August, Adelaide's Caitlin Feagan - otherwise known as Alice Girl, and who we introduced here back in January - has now uploaded a full four-minute version of stylish electronic R&B/pop mix combined with ethereal vocals.
RALE - SPRINKLE WITH RUST
Impressive debut single, out last week, from the Sheffield three-piece who "unify post punk, new wave pop and a sense of modern-day unease".
JAILBOX - WHOLE
Exquisite new single from the St. Louis, Missouri collective, released last week via FarmerTanz Records. A follow-up to the recent 'Idea Jar', the piano opening with harmonised vocals are aided by acoustic guitar and weaved together neatly by an expertly executed percussion section.
AMBER RUN - NO ANSWERS
From their second album ‘For A Moment, I Was Lost’, out February 10 2017, this cut from the Nottingham four-piece go for an atmospheric rock side on the song about "struggling with uncertainty,” the band explain. “It’s loosely based on the breakdown of professional and personal relationships that we’d had for years. We felt forgotten, uncertain and angry. It’s about frustration and feeling completely helpless about something.”
THE AWAY DAYS - PLACES TO GO
Shimmering, melodic shoegaze delight on this track released today (December 16) from the Turkish outfit's debut album due next year.
BABE - BIT PART
After a lengthy break, the Glasgow quartet return with a new album forthcoming next year, prior to which they share this new single. Infusing elements of R&B and electronica with frontman Gerard Black’s haunting falsetto set in a brooding atmospheric soundscape.
GULP - SEARCH FOR YOUR LOVE
Cardiff-based Scottish vocalist Lindsey Leven teams up with Guto Pryce (Super Furry Animals) to create garage spacepop, on this reverbed guitar and synth number, which is out now via Tim Burgess’ O Genesis label.
TSÖRF - HOLD ONTO ME
Ethereal, electronic dreampop with shades of R&B from Auckland, New Zealand songstress. Her debut at the start of 2016 as Tsörf (pronounced 'surf') with the release of 'Can I Be Close 2U?', followed later by 'Know The Light', saw both tracks being produced by Djeisan Suskov of Leisure as part of her 2017 arriving EP.
