Track Of The Day :: Great Ytene - Wanness

Words: Ellie Ward

London-based post-punks Great Ytene (pronounced ‘ee-ten’) unveil their second single from their upcoming debut album, 'Locus', due on February 17 2017 on Brighton's Faux Discx label.

Recorded and mixed in East London at Holy Mountain with producer and long-time collaborator Iggy B, and mixed by MJ (Hookworms) at Suburban Home Studios in Leeds , it is their first full-length work since their self-titled debut in 2014, and one which sees the band exploring darker themes.

"It's a track immersing itself in times past and present of unhappiness and fatigue, an underlining theme I seem to carry when writing lyrics for our tracks," says the band's Leon Diaper. But the track is pretty upbeat and pumping in sound and one of our favorites to play live."

'Wanness', the second cut from the record after the title track, is a dark, sonic sweep of guitars, distortion, and the drum kicks are the biz.

Catch Great Ytene live tonight (December 9) at The Hope and Ruin, Brighton. The band have also announced an album release show in London on February 17 at The Lexington.
