Introducing :: DENIO

Words: Linn Branson

Newly emerging alt-indie four-piece DENIO may only have formed last November ("after months of writing and playing music together simply as a group of good friends"), but they're not hanging about, having already put out one track, 'Models' in December and now about to release its follow-up.

Originally from Formby, Merseyside where the teen friends grew up and began crafting their songs and sound, and now based in Liverpool and London, their style has been inspired by early Talking Heads, Foals and Arcade Fire. Their use of layered guitar and wurlitzer hooks, with four to the floor drum patterns and synth bass, creates grooves on which Davis projects his melodic lyrical style.

New single 'Cait', released next week (March 20), has already been picked up by Dave Monks on BBC Introducing Merseyside, and with its shimmering keys arrangements and punchy beat, dance vibe texture and Davis' strident lead vocal. Definitely one to get the party started.

DENIO play a London single release show at Camden Assembly on April 7.

DENIO are: Mike Davis - vocals, Andres Hernandez - lead guitar, Daniel Hernandez - keyboards, Bill Caple - drums.
