Album Review :: Haim - Something To Tell You

6.5/10

The Haim sisters - Este, Danielle and Alana - return with more catchy melodies on 'Something To Tell You', their second album and four years after 'Days Are Gone'. This Ariel Rechtshaid-produced follow-up doesn't deter much from its predecessor, extolling the same bass grooves, driving percussion and confidence.

Eleven tracks detail romance and heartbreak, relationships and breakups. Lead single 'Want You Back' is a big, bold power pop opener, while 'Nothing's Wrong' and 'Ready For You' bring in a more electronic vibe. While ‘Little Of Your Love' shines with the infectious Haim qualities and an R&B touch, ‘You Never Knew’ takes the pace down and ‘Right Now’, starts on a quiet note but it has plenty in store as it bursts into life on an epic flourish. Album closer, the gentle 'Night So Long' is mainly just voice and guitar, filled out in its latter half by the three sisters joining as one.

Not a bad album, but not a great one; just the sisters doing it for themselves as they know best.
