Little Indie casts its ears and eyes over more of the latest sounds to emerge recently from Down Under.
KANE STRANG - MY SMILE IS EXTINCT
One of the lo-fi tracks from the ’Two Hearts and No Brain’ LP by the Dunedin, New Zealand DIY indie singer-songwriter, released at the end of last month on Dead Oceans, following last year's 'Blue Cheese'.
The six-piece have now decamped back to the Gold Coast from their sunny stay in Manchester, from where they issue this new single from their upcoming debut album, 'So Long and Thankyou', produced and mixed by Catherine Marks (Foals, Wolf Alice). Seductive pop hooks, jagged riffs build through a combination of synths and coiled melodies, into an implosive crescendo.
FØRD – SHADOWS (feat. Samsaruh)
From Byron Bay, New South Wales, the new track from 18 year old producer Ford Miskin, featuring vocals by Melbourne songstress Samsaruh. The electro dance track of hip hop influence, silky synths and a future-beat production.
SELF TALK - BEDSIDE DICTIONARY
The new single from the Melbourne indie pop/rock quintet, from their forthcoming 'Almost Everything' EP, out August 11 via Inertia Access (digital) and Lost Boy Records (vinyl). The nostalgic number, say tye band, is about "relationships that don’t really get past the beginning, not because they don’t work or the people involved don’t like each other, but it just doesn’t go any further. It's about the various things that come with that, how it might feel, the frustration or disconnection.”
RAT & CO - SOLDIERS (feat. Liahona)
Latest single from the upcoming third album - 'Third Law' - by Melbourne electronic hip hop trio, released on August 25.
This low key, pulsing track, which features fellow Australian Liahona's ethereal vocals, is an atmospherically brooding, downtempo cut that rises on a laid-back breakbeat.
THE OCEAN PARTY - MORE TO RUN
From the Melbourne-based dreampop band's forthcoming 'Beauty Point' LP out August 18. Striking melodies shimmer with fuzzy guitar riffs and twinkling keys and an hypnotic slacker vocal.
