Premiered by Dave Monks on BBC Radio Merseyside last Saturday (March 10), 'Hey, Hey Tiger!' is the debut release - out on March 30 via Rooftop Records - from new Liverpool outfit, Seatbelts.
The quartet is the project of Hooton Tennis Club's James Madden and Ryan Murphy, and the single is the first cut to come from their forthcoming debut EP, 'Songs For Vonnegut', which is expected in May.
There's a catchy vibe to 'Hey, Hey Tiger!' with its jerky, upbeat, psych-influenced styling. Dominant throughout is the motorik beat, recorded through a Wah Wah pedal, and the accompanying percussive hits - said to come from the borrowed chip pan of Madden's mum!
Lyrically, such lines as “Don't listen out to the calling of the parade / pick it up and it will never be the same”, is believed to be an observation of the cut throat tactics that abound in the business world.
Seatbelts open for Alessi's Ark on May 18 at 81 Renshaw Street in Liverpool.
