Sing & Tell :: The Nightmares

The Nightmares are a recently fledged four-piece based in Newport, Wales, via The Midlands, and comprised of members of Sharks, The Vestals and Disjoy. They released their debut single 'Dorothy' on March 30 through Pretty Hate Records, played their first live gig on April 6 in Newport, and received first radio airplay via Adam Walton on BBC Radio Wales on March 31.

Who are you?

My name is Benjamin T. Mainwaring and I play bass in The Nightmares. The line up is completed by Adam Parslow (vocals, guitar), Eleanor Coburn (keys) and James Mattock (drums).

Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today?

We are based in Newport, Wales but come from different parts of the UK. With the exception of Eleanor, we've all played in bands previously but have come together for this project with a shared vision.

Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.

I'd say we just want to make the best dark, melodic music we can; I wouldn't want to put us in any bracket this early in our career. We've only released one track so far and  we've only been a band since very late in 2017.

Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.

Adam and/or Eleanor will usually bring an idea into the rehearsal space and we work through the structure as a unit.

Tell us a little about your new single.

'Dorothy' is a song about losing someone or something that you love.

Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?

We've only just played our first show which was at Le Pub in Newport this past Friday. We were overwhelmed by the response and turn out. We're excited to start playing more shows around the country and beyond. Watch this space.

How's the rest of the year looking, plans-wise?

At this stage we're just looking to continue to write the best music we can. We will be releasing a second single over the next couple of months with an aim to record our debut EP sometime over the summer months. Other than that, we just want to get out on the road and play to as many people as we can.

Where can we hear more of your music?

All updates will be available at our website as and when they become available. For now, Soundcloud, YouTube.

What social media platforms can we find you on?
