Baltimore's Julien Chang reflects on 'Memory Loss' on debut LP cut
Words: Sam Geary
Nineteen-year-old Baltimore multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter Julien Chang precedes his debut album, 'Jules', out via Transgressive on October 11, with this new cut from the LP, 'Memory Loss'.
"A worsening memory is something I've always been worried about," reveals Chang (pronounced Chong). "The song was made with a kind of structural rigidity in mind, and about memory’s natural lack of it when having trouble putting faces to names, for example. It’s easy to be frustrated by that feeling, but being left with a sudden emotional reaction sparked by some stimulus for an unclear reason can be as lovely as it is disorienting."
Julien and his five-piece live band head out on his first ever tour later this year with dates that include two London headline shows at Bermondsey Social Club on October 28 and Servant Jazz Quarters on 29th.
