The Ninth Wave share the new video for ‘Flower Into Wounds’, taken from their debut album ‘Infancy’, which is out now on Distiller Records.

The track’s title is taken from the opening line of a chapter in J. G. Ballard’s book ‘Crash,’ in which the protagonist discovers his sexual arousal when his body is harmed in car crashes. As the book progresses, his body becomes more and more maimed by these self-inflicted collisions, with him explaining that his body is “flowering into wounds.”

The band found inspiration here to write a song about emotional masochism and finding enjoyment in having your heart broken.

The accompanying video is directed by Joern Utkilen, who won the 2000 BAFTA Award for Best Short Film.

"[It] is a meditation on suburban living expressed through a surreal interpretation of Cronenberg’s ‘Crash’, all inspired by the lyrics of ‘Flower Into Wounds'," say the band. "Joern Utkilen, Amelia’s uncle, directed the video and helped us present the essence of the song visually.”
