Larkins started off impressive enough to warrant a Little Indie One To Watch inclusion for 2018, but over the last two years they have slowly been rising up the ranks with every record release and tour.
The new synth-laden alt-pop 'Are We Having Any Fun Yet?' follows their February released 'Hit and Run' EP, and shows that despite the current lull in musical activity due to the coronavirus pandemic, this Manchester-via-Glossop foursome are just sitting biding their time until they can emerge from their chrysalis and become big league, big arena stars.
With the cinematic Grandmas-directed video, the anthemic, thudding bassline and frontman Josh Noble's need-to-really-listen lyricism ("You’ve got it so bad / You’re wasting your time / You didn’t know that / He’s just not your type / Got dealt the wrong hand / But you don’t want to fight / So you tell your friends that / You’ll be alright") that comes across in an enigmatic vocal timbre that registers both feeling and vulnerability, make it hard not to feel shades of The 1975 going on here. Certainly Larkins are refining thrir sound all then time, and with 'Are We Having Any Fun Yet?' they are now becoming a true musical force.
