Sam Smith Collects Brit Award As Critics' Choice

Sam Smith has finished off a superb year tonight (December 11) by winning a Brit Award in the Critics' Choice category. He will not, however, be able to get his hands on the gong itself just yet. He will collect his award at the launch for nominations in the other award categories on January 9. The event, to be hosted by Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw and which will be shown on ITV, precedes the 2014 ceremony itself that takes place on February 19 at London's O2 Arena.

He follows past winners such as Adele and Jessie J for the award which is given in recognition of an artist seen as a tip for the top over the next twelve months.

The 21-year-old from Cambridge scored a number one when his vocals were featured on Naughty Boy's 'La La La'. His own debut EP 'Money On My Mind' was also released this year.

Following the announcement, the delighted Smith posted to his Facebook page: "HOLY SHIT!!!! I have just won a Brit Award! I really don't know what to say."
