New Sounds #7 6/10/15
OVER SANDS - HOUNDS
Taken from their debut self-titled EP out on November 20 via B3SCI, this track from the Stephens' brothers Tom and Ben, whom we featured here back early last year in our Introducing section, was written over the course of several weeks in a remote beach house off the English East coast; the vocals of 'Hounds' being recorded in an abandoned World War Two bunker the duo found nearby. Star rating: ***.5/5
THE HEART STRINGS - BRIGHT LIGHTS
Nothing to do with Frankie, new single released in September, from London-based alt-pop producer and songwriter Todd Roache - a full seven years since debut album 'Try Fly Blue Sky' - is filled with electronic beats and a different feel to previous single, 'Beautiful Abyss'. Star rating: ***/5
THE SOUP INCIDENT - I DON'T WANNA MOVE
First taste of the laid-back dreamy indie pop from one man solo project of Derby-based Jason Tunnicliffe aka The Soup Incident. One of a number of tracks uploaded online, not quite '57 varieties', but warming. Star rating: **.5/5
DILLISTONE - SAD & HIGH
Out on October 13, the 21-year-old London-based Danish electronic producer delivers an interesting take on the genre, with lo-fi vocals set against a steady rhythm of synth and click beats. Star rating: ****/5
THE REVERSALS - COMING DOWN WITH YOU
Brisbane five-piece indie rockers with the first track from their debut EP (set for release early next year) that mixes catchy melodies with hooky guitar riffs, synth, and punchy beat. Vocalist Nathanael Hubbard explains the meaning behind the song: “The song tells the story of two lost souls drawn towards each other through a process of letting go, unfolding and ultimately opening up.” Star rating: ***.5/5
