Track Of The Day :: Baby Brave - Alone In Tokyo
Words - Linn Branson
Lead track from the just released 'Tacky Birthday' EP by Welsh noise pop quartet from Wrexham, Baby Brave.
From its opening on a sample of ringing phone and a Japanese voice answering - "moshi moshi" - it should be enough to get your attention, but as it works its way through a foot-tapping beat and some mighty riffs and distorted guitar, with Emmi Manteau providing the vocals that lend a feel of fellow Welsh band Beach Fatigue, it becomes by far one of their catchiest works so far.
'Tacky Birthday' is the follow-up for the outfit - led by Manteau and originally starting out as a folk-pop duo - to their debut 'King Horse' EP of last year, which has won them quite a following including support from the likes of BBC Radio Wales' Adam Walton, a raft of festival appearances and live dates with Bo Ningen, Stealing Sheep, H Hawkline and Slow Club.
Baby Brave play London's 93 Feet East on December 4, followed by Telford's Warehouse, Chester on December 19.
