Track Of The Day :: Mt. Wolf - Hex

Words: Linn Branson

Another evocative, moving and expertly crafted and produced track from Mt. Wolf. A six-minute epic cut into four distinct parts and helmed by the roof-reaching pitch of singer and producer Sebastian 'Bassi' Fox's vocal (how tight must his trousers be!), 'Hex' could almost be a contender for a Christmas single.

The first track to be taken from their as yet untitled EP set for release early next year, it lyrically deals with the aftermath of losing someone close, and escaping the spell they had cast.

Opening on just vocal and plucked guitar in folk-like ambience for the first minute, it gradually changes complexion adding in, by the halfway mark, spine-tingling percussion and Fox's vocals - almost near operatic in quality - pulling in around it the emotive string sections. Just after four minutes, it rises upwards through thunderous drums and guitars, before closing down once more to a simplistic end.  Effortlessly drawn together in the way that Mt. Wolf have shown on their earlier 'Red' EP they are masters at executing, 'Hex' is music for the soul.
