Sleephawk is the moniker of Hackney, east London-based musician Matt Wright’s new audio-visual project. This week he has dropped his debut single ‘Malibu’, the first taste of a forthcoming EP.
The single combines cinematic landscapes with close personal vocal delivery, channelling an Alt-J and Westerman vibe to create a sophisti-pop sound, but never turning its back on the intimacy of its lyrics.
The video clip - produced by Matt himself - uses an iPhone like rectangle as its focus centered and unavoidable as it is in everyday life, which is bordered by the ever-changing animation of Matt's psyche as a repeating image of a girl begins to overtake the content displayed in the rectangle.
