Track Of The Day :: Marsicans - Pop-Ups (Sunny at the Weekend)

Words: Ellie Ward

Released last Friday, Marsicans' aptly titled new single, 'Pop-Ups (Sunny at the Weekend)', couldn't have come at a better time with our current UK heatwave weather.

The vibrant, singalong jam (released via LAB Records) is a catchy follow-up to recent singles 'Wake Up Freya' and 'Friends' - and definitely gives off its own sunny vibe. The indie-pop quartet's soaring anthem is just perfect for the festival stages they'll be gracing over the next months (see below).

“I came back into the rehearsal room one day and found (drummer) Cale playing a riff on my guitar,” says frontman James Newbigging of the track. “When I got home from rehearsal with the riff stuck in my head, I was watching a film online and got a pop-up ad along the lines of “Wow, look how much money I’ve made.” It got me thinking about the people in life that make all these false promises to you and try and get you into their crazy schemes. Lyrically, the song is basically just poking fun at those chancers.”
