Track Of The Day :: Sam Fender - That Sound

Words: Sam Geary

Premiered on BBC Radio 1 by Annie Mac as the Hottest Record earlier yesterday evening (October 22), Sam Fender shares new single 'That Sound'.

The track comes from his debut EP ‘Dead Boys’, out on November 20 through Polydor Records.

“Simply put, 'That Sound' is a celebration of music, but it’s also a not-so-subtle middle finger to the naysayers that tend to rear their heads as soon as things start to work out for you, especially back at home," states the young North Shields musician, whose lyrics tackle hard-hitting subjects of social importance and generational significance.

"Music was always ever present when I was growing up, and it’s continued to be the most important and intrinsic part of me.  It kept me from going off the rails as a kid and it gave me rare purpose and self-confidence that I couldn't find from anything else. This song talks loosely about how susceptible you can become to negativity and jealousy, even when you’re at your happiest and most confident. It’s about finding strength to ignore it all, and keep doing your own thing.”

Following his upcoming sold out tour, Sam will play Gorilla in Manchester and London’s Electric Brixton in February, with tickets on sale now. Following the UK run next month, Sam then heads out to Europe in December, ahead of his first live dates in Australia and New Zealand.
