Best new tracks Down Under #1
With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
HANNAH KATE - MORELAND
Not just a 'she' but also a garage-pop five-piece from Melbourne - fronted by the eponymous Hannah Kate herself - who recently unveiled this second single following September’s ‘Cry July' from their upcoming debut album. The melancholic slow-paced track is filled with lush guitar arpeggios, synths and Hannah’s floating voice.
FLIGHT TO DUBAI - FEARLINGS
Released January 3, the lead single from the Sydney post-punk quartet's new EP 'Frontal Lobes', complete with rangy rock vocals over four minutes of raucoys tempo shifts. Catch the band live for the EP cassette launch on January 11 at the Bank Hotel in Newtown.
FAZED ON A PONY - NATURAL TOAST
The Dunedin, NZ indie rock five serve their hook-filled new offering - the lead single from their 'That's How The Light Gets In' EP, due out in early February via trace / untrace records. Singer and guitarist Peter McCall delivers the lyrics in laid back fashion over a bank of fuzzy guitars.
BIB KIDS - 100 DEGREES
Emerging Auckland, NZ electronic duo, Tash van Schaardenburg (vocals, synths, samples) and Michael Vincent Sperring (electronic drums), precede their first EP, 'Gimp Software', due in March, with this debut single. The opening launch of sharp percussion and dark synths are augmented by van Schaardenburg’s edgy vocal.
THE LIMERANTS - FADE
Released January 3, high octane new wave/synth rock release from the Melbourne five-piece. Fiona Steele on vocals/guitar smoothly helms the sub-four minutes that span grungy lows to pop punk highs.
PINK WASABI - ANGELS
Little Indie first heard Adelaide-based electronic producer and songwriter Odetta Maxwell back in early December with 'Skin'. Now she brings another coolly atmospheric number to the turntable. Catch live on January 12 at The Crown & Anchor in Adelaide.
