Track Of The Day :: The Lids - Beef Baby
Words: Linn Branson
'Beef Baby' is the new single cut from Leicester alt-rockers The Lids, lifted from their EP, 'El Biznaguero', out today (October 4).
Recorded at Soundhub studios in Belper, Derbyshire, this is the first new material in some while from the three-piece - and previous Little Indie #Blogtoberfest stars.
The song, they say, is about "how much things change in your life as you progress into adulthood, particularly focusing on growing out of old habits and realizing that you just have to be yourself and not change who you are to please other people. Basically, just be yourself and if people don’t like you for it then you’re better off without them anyway."
The beefy 'Baby' shows the three -brothers Rhys and Liam Butler, with Sam Deas-Bogie on drums - have not been wasting their time during their 'quiet period'. With a funk-inspired synth running through its veins, Britrock raw vocal, and steady drum backbone adding to the infectious, radio-friendly rhythms, it captures a new essence not previously heard from them before.
You can catch The Lids live for a hometown show at the 02 Academy2, Leicester on November 15.
