‘The Gates’, released March 31, is the new single - produced by Stephen Kozmeniuk (Kendrick Lamar, Madonna, Nicki Minaj) - from Canadian trio Young Empires.
Fusing the lines between electro, dance and rock, the synths, slick guitars and piano-driven melody of 'The Gates' kicks out in its own anthemic niche, as vocalist Matthew Vlahovich delivers emotive depth to lyrics: "I can feel it in my bones/every time I think of home/it still haunts me like a ghost/but I know we're not alone."
The song, say the Toronto-based band, is "about fighting through depression and self-doubt... understanding and accepting that things will never be perfect. It suggests that by uniting with those around us (that may or not struggle with same), we can overcome this feeling of isolation that is so commonplace in this world."
